In keeping with the well established Girard style, this Old Vine Zinfandel is a beautifully balanced expression of unique terroir. There's a plethora of ripe red fruit from the old vines. Their natural spiciness is augmented by the judicious use of oak to add complexity. This is a silky, juicy zinfandel which will complement a wide range of foods. The natural acidity makes it a perfect foil to tomato based sauces as well as grilled meats.

Our 2008 vintage Old Vine Zinfandel is a lush, jammy, medium-bodied wine with silky, well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity. The aroma/flavor profile includes: black cherry, red plum and pumpkin pie spices. The blend is 85% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Sirah, 4% Mourvedre and 2% Syrah.

Winemaker Notes:	The grapes were hand-sorted and crushed to stainless steel fermentors. Pumpovers were done as gently as possible to avoid undesirable harsh tannin extraction. Pressed at dryness to 85% French and 15% American oak with a composition of 40% new oak for both barrel types.
Vineyard Notes:	The vineyard sources for our 2008 Old Vine Zinfandel are: Blue Ridge and Morgan Vineyards on Mt. Vaca; Godward Vineyard in Calistoga. Mt. Vaca is the highest peak of the Vaca range, which forms the Eastern border of the Napa Valley. Many of our Zinfandel vines are over a century old. The fruit concentration from these mountain vineyards and the century-old valley floor vineyards ensure our Old Vine Zinfandel has rich flavor extraction, a fruit-forward palate and wonderful layers of complexity from multiple soil types.
