Vintage Notes
2016 was another near perfect growing season with idyllic weather throughout the year. Harvest was a bit earlier than usual, and yields were balanced. Most importantly, the quality of fruit was once again impressive, marked by complex aromatics and flavors.

Vineyard Notes
This fruit was sourced from the Godward Vineyard in Calistoga from century old head-pruned vines. Inter-planted varietals from the turn of the century make this a nod to California’s wine growing heritage and the field blends it first produced.

With concerns of uneven ripening in older field blends we do our best to stay on top of the maturity of these vineyards during harvest to attempt to find the perfect balance of fruit ripeness and balanced acidity. Once in the cellar we attempt to extract the most character during fermentation.

Tasting Notes
The aromatics are laden with heady blackberry, cassis and red licorice. The palate showcases ripe fruit flavors reminiscent of blood orange, pomegranate and blackberry cobbler. Typical of this vineyard, the fruit character is bold but balanced by bright acidity. The finish is lengthy across the palate with smooth tannins and refined oak integration.

Field Blend believed to include Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre.
