Reviews - Chardonnay

2006 Russian River Chardonnay

90 points - Robert Parker
"This brilliant Chardonnay was barrel-fermented in French oak and aged sur-lie for ten months. It boasts abundant amounts of honeysuckle and tropical fruits in a medium-bodied, pure, crisp format. Only a light touch of wood in noticeable. Consume it over the next 1-2 years."

- Wine Advocate, #178, August 2008

Three Plus Stars
A full bodied, moderately oaky Chardonnay, with smooth texture, and citrus-like fruitiness (grapefruit, lemon), with a touch of pineapple.

2005 Russian River Chardonnay

California's Best of 2006 - Top 10 Chardonnays of the Year
Fresh, pretty, aromatic scents of lime zest, tropical fruit and lemon blossom. Round, silky smooth and moderately creamy with cleansing acidity, this well-priced Chardonnay delivers complex flavors of succulent pear, lemon, honeydew melon and a subtle note of caramel; lingering, fruity close. Completely barrel fermented in French oak, ten months sur lie and native malolactic provide substance rather than weightiness.

2004 Russian River Chardonnay

Four-Star Rating
A full bodied, supple, moderately complex wine, with good balance and a medium long finish. It tastes of pineapple, peach, toast, roasted nut and oak.

89 Points
This Napa winery has been reaching into the Russian River for their Chardonnay, with good results. Dry and crisp in acids, the wine has a minerality behind the green apple, peach and melon flavors. The firm structure should provide for aging through 2009.

2003 Russian River Chardonnay

Editors Choice 2005
Well-balanced, with a mix of ripe apple, spice and hazelnut flavors.

One Puff
Hints of flowers and a suggestion of Muscat in the nose give the wine a light and lively quality while its honey and oak aromas fill it out admirably. Medium-full in body and decently balanced if a little bit on the open side in its youth, this tasty bottling may lack for a bit of complexity but more than compensates with its ripe and fully fruity flavors.

2002 Russian River Chardonnay

90 Points, | GOOD VALUE
Here is the classy Chardonnay that is too often overlooked in the rush to praise wines of extravagant oak and heavy-handed ripeness, and its clean, genuinely juicy style strikes us as a sure-fire mealtime hit. Deeply fruity and simply bursting with sweet, Gala apple elements, it is made complete by its deftly applied dose of oak. It is at once full, rounded and pleasantly crisp with a long and satisfying finish, and it gets the nod for value to.

90 Points
"This venerable Napa Winery turned to a cool Sonoma locale and has crafted a rich, balanced Chardonnay. It has lush flavors of sweet green apples, cinnamon, vanilla and toast, and zesty, citrusy acids. Smooth drinking, and an excellent food wine that's not too big."

- Wine Enthusiast, June, 2004

"Serves up a tight, flinty beam of spicy pear, mineral, citrus and guava scents, elegantly balanced, with lively acidity and excellent length."

2001 Russian River Chardonnay

"A lovely textural pleasure, this is completely closed on the aroma, then rich & buttery in flavor. It feels like silk as it rides through a heady, sweet pear finish, delicious with a supper of fruit & cheese"

"Rates as perfect in my book."
"There's nothing brassy or over-produced about this seamlessly balanced exposition of lemon-lime, grapefruit and pineapple flavors shot with limestone, jasmine, honeysuckle and orange zest. It mediates exquisitely between sparseness and richness, elegance and lushness, and provides and excellent foil to the fattiness and smokiness of the tuna and swordfish."

Rated 88
"An evenhanded display of creamy oak wrapped around spicy, hazelnut-scented pear and fig flavors."

2000 Russian River Chardonnay

Rated 89
"Smooth, creamy and sensual on the palate, the wine is redolent of pear, melon, spice and vanilla, finishing clean and fresh, with subtle, lemony notes. Long at the end."

- Wine Enthusiast Buying Guide, May 2002

“One Word describes the Girard Chardonnay 2000, Russian River Valley ---- stunning. Perfectly balanced yet sumptuously outfitted with apple, pineapple and grapefruit scents and flavors, taut and vibrant but luxurious in texture. So dense it’s almost powdery and winsome on the finish with lime, limestone and touches of little white flowers. This Chardonnay displays not an iota of exaggeration. Exceptional. About 25, and for the quality, That’s a Bargain.”
